It’s not uncommon for me to get a knot in my throat at weddings - the vows, the speeches, the love, the parents watching their babies all grown up….it all swirls around me in an achy mix of the very best things in life. At Fiona and Bernie’s wedding I not only got a knot but actual tears, from the vows they wrote for each other to the best man’s speech, from the way their circle rallied around them to the way they looked at each other. They stood in front of their most loved people, held hands and said, “When I look at you I feel it. I look at you and I’m home,” and I was gone. It is never lost on me, not ever, what an honour it is to be invited so closely into days such as these.
“We sit in silence and watch the stars, I suppose because there are no words, not in all the languages on earth, that can properly describe the feeling of being in love. And perhaps those little burning lights out there in the dark are the closest we come to something that does.” — Beau Taplin
